Pitch The spacing in a connector from pin to adjacent pin and from row to adjacent row. Sometimes used in place of centerlines.
Plating The process in which metals (e.g. gold, tin/lead, nickel) are electrically deposited onto the base metal (e.g. copper alloy, phosphor bronze) in a very thin and precise thickness.
PLCC Abbreviation for Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier
Plug Mail Connector. Often referred to as a header or free connector.
Polarization A method of "Keying" mating connectors so they can not be plugged in backwards.
polarization slot A cut-away feature on a connector housing that accepts the polarizing tab to assure proper mating.
polarizing key A tab or plug incorporated in a connector to allow mating only in the correct way.
Potting The process of applying a plastic compound (usually epoxy) to seal wiring soldered to connector contacts. Potting prevents short circuits, keeps moisture out, provides strain relief, etc.
precision formed contact A contact which is stamped from a flat sheet of metal and then formed through a progressive die.
PVC Abbreviation for Polyvinyl Chloride, the most common cable insulation.
